Physiotherapy at Beachbox Physiotherapy
At Beachbox Physiotherapy, we are specialists in:
- Musculoskeletal injuries
- Workplace injuries
- Sports injuries
- Vehicle/TAC injuries
- Spinal rehabilitation and back pain
A musculoskeletal injury can happen to anyone. The most common form of injury is a sprain or strain of muscles, ligaments and tendons. However, other structures in the body can also be affected by a musculoskeletal injury. These include spinal discs, joints (cartilage tears), and bursae (fluid sac between tendons).
Musculoskeletal injury can happen as a result of lifting something incorrectly or having a fall. It may also be the result of a gradual loading on the body, often caused by poor posture.
Common muscular skeletal injuries are:
- Lower back strain
- Neck strain
- Rotator Cuff tear (shoulder)
- Twisted ankle
- Twisted knee
Our physiotherapists will diagnose, treat and inform you about the type of injury you have sustained. They are experts in manual therapy, exercise prescription, ergonomics and the management of rehabilitation.
Unfortunately, workplace injuries can happen as a result of poor work practices, an accident or just bad luck. At Beachbox Physiotherapy we are specialists in treating workplace injuries and helping you through the WorkSafe system. As authorized Occupational Physiotherapists, after we assess and treat your injury, we can follow up with:
- Worksite assessments
- Ergonomic advice
- Negotiation upon which duties are appropriate
- Recommendations of specialist equipment
Sports injuries are a natural component of sport. They can occur as acute problems like a sprained ankle and a muscle strain, or the injuries could be longstanding chronic problems such as shin splints or lower back pain.
Sport and exercise, whilst healthy and essential to maintaining good health, does require body positions which create more load on specific joints and muscles.
As experienced musculoskeletal physiotherapists and experienced sports people we understand the demands of your sport, and how we can maximise your physical potential.
To remain injury free and competing at the highest level in your sport you may need a regular remedial program. Part of this program is a series of exercises and self assessments to ensure you are not developing an injury. We can work with your coaches by informing them of your injury status and the level to which you are able to compete.
Being in a Motor Vehicle accident can have serious implications to the body. Most people recover quickly with minor aches and pains; however, some people may experience long lasting effects from a motor vehicle accident.
At Beachbox Physiotherapy, we will assess and treat your injuries to minimise any long lasting effects.
As part of the TAC’s commitment to early intervention and rehabilitation, the TAC waives the excess fee if you see an Authorized Occupational Physiotherapist.*

ACUTE BACK PAIN
Approximately 8 out of 10 people will experience the symptoms of back pain at least once in their lives. Bed rest used to be recommended immediately after a back injury; however this is no longer the case. Now it is recommended that you resume your daily activities as soon as possible after an injury and then after a few weeks, you start a program of gentle stretching and strengthening of the back muscles.
A comprehensive back rehabilitation program should consist of both stretching and strengthening the muscles. This should include the abdominal muscles as these muscles play an important role in stabilising the spine.
At Beachbox Physiotherapy we provide a structured transition program from an acute injury to a comprehensive rehabilitation program in our specialist gymnasium.
RECURRENT BACK PAIN
The reason why people continue to experience recurrent back pain can be complex. There may be a mix of daily habits, work habits or spinal structural problems that contribute to their recurrent pain. Spinal rehabilitation re-builds muscle and helps the spinal joints become healthier through regular exercise. It is a scientifically sound and evidenced based method of managing recurrent back pain.
LONG TERM MANAGEMENT OF BACK PAIN
We all know that exercise should be part of our daily lives; however fitting it into our day and completing it without hurting our joints can be difficult. For busy people we provide a 30 minute express exercise program, supervised by a physiotherapist or an exercise scientist.
Don’t wait until you’re in persistent pain, start your spinal rehabilitation program at Beachbox Physiotherapy today.
Dry needing is available at Beachbox Physiotherapy. It is excellent for the treatment of musculature injury. Dry Needling uses acupuncture needles that are inserted into “knots” in muscles. This can provide relief from chronically tight and painful muscles and joints. Dry needling should not be confused with Chinese acupuncture which can only be done by an acupuncturist who is registered with the Chinese Medicine Board of Australia.
