We are excited to bring you an effective solution for hip and knee osteoarthritis without surgery or injections!
GLA:D Australia is a program developed by researchers in Denmark to ensure that people receive the correct education and exercise to help manage their osteoarthritis effectively and improve your quality of life.
What is GLA:D?
GLA:D stands for Good Life with Osteoarthritis in Denmark. The program was developed by researchers in Denmark and has had such marked success, that it is now covered by their national healthcare system! The program involves exercise sessions twice a week for six weeks and two education sessions. The education sessions aim to improve your knowledge of osteoarthritis so that you can make more informed decisions about your condition, how the program improves your joint stability and how to maintain the improvements that you see during the program.
What does the research say about the program?
People who participate in the program see an average of 32% reduction in symptom progression. Other outcomes show that participants have less pain, take less joint related pain medication and required fewer sick leaves due to their osteoarthritis pain. In terms of surgery, participants who still required surgery recovered an average of 6 weeks quicker, others were able to delay surgery for up to 2 years and some did not require surgery at all after completing the program.
Who can participate in GLA:D?
Anybody who has hip or knee osteoarthritis symptoms can participate regardless of the severity.
Who may not be able to participate in GLA:D?
If you have other reasons for your joint symptoms, e.g. inflammatory joint disease, tumours, hip fractures, or if you have another disease that is causing more pronounced pain that your osteoarthritis, e.g. fibromyalgia or chronic generalised pain, this may limit your ability to participate however please contact the clinic and we are happy to discuss your case with you.
